NH-285 - Piscataqua Exchange Bank

New Hampshire, Portsmouth - $3 Piscataqua Exchange Bank (1844-1863)
No. 2786, Unsigned (November 6, 1852)
Plate A
Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Company - Philadelphia & New York
Fate: Formerly the Piscataqua Bank, Portsmouth, NH-280. Became the First National Bank of Portsmouth.
Haxby NH-285-G6

Note: Haxby incorrectly lists the engraver of this note as Toppan & Carpenter. As far as I can tell, only the $3 denomination was engraved by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Company and may have been designed after all of the other issues since this note is dated November 6, 1852 (the same date as the Haxby plate note). This theory may be supported if the watermark T.C.C. & Co. found on Civil War era notes is from Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co.
