Note: The Cohortes Praetoriae formed the bodyguard of the commanders. They consisted of mixed companies of horse and foot soldiers, generally selected from veterans and in Imperial times became the Praetorian Guard.

The coin is part of the so called "Fleet Coinage" and was struck under M. Oppius Capito, as propraetor and praefectus classis in 38/37 BC. The S above the prow stands for Semis.
