The Gepiden Kingdom occupied Hungary and Romania during the beginning of the Byzantine Empire, c.500-567 until they were defeated by the Lombards in Hungary and assimilated into their culture. There are some beliefs the kingdom of the Gepids lasted for possibly 700 years in the Carpathian Mountians.¹
