Note: This is a fascinating barbarous imitative as it attempted to be as close to an official issue as the celator had the skill. The legends are relatively close, the obverse copying D N MAGNEN_TIVS P F AVG and the reverse attempting FELICITAS REI_PVBLICE. However, this piece combines attributes from either several coins or an official coin that is undocumented. First, since this is copying Magnentius, the emperor should be bare-headed on the obverse, as he is on the reverse. Second, since this appears to be copying RIC 262 based on the reverse type and no field letters on the obverse or reverse, the obverse legend should have been IM CAE MAGN_ENTIVS AVG. Perhaps a coin of Constantius II was used for the portrait, an example of RIC 262 used for the reverse and a later Magnentius coin was used for the obverse legend? Although we'll likely never know for certain what the celator used, it incorporates elements of various coins which all were circulating in Trier at the same time.
